2023: School cleaners win review from NSW government

Before the NSW election in March 2023, NSW school cleaners campaigned about the high level of injuries they were facing as they rushed from job to job, winning a review of the failed privatisation of NSW school cleaning.

Before the NSW elections in March 2023, NSW school cleaners secured a promise from the then Minns Labor Opposition that they would review the failed privatisation of NSW school cleaning.

In 2024 the promised review involving representatives of United Workers Union and school cleaners heard of the terrible working conditions facing cleaners, including cleaners expected to do more than 600 tasks a day or 43 seconds a task and among the worst injury rates in the state.

The Minns Labor Government is now considering next steps about how to address conditions facing 7000 school cleaners that have raised concerns of the NSW Anti-Slavery Commissioner.
